Where Winds Meet: Dream in Flames Lost Chapter Walkthrough

Here is a walkthrough on how to complete the Lost Chapter side quest: Dream in Flames in Where Winds Meet. This quest was such a pleasant surprise to stumble across while exploring, and it definitely pulled on all of my little heartstrings. To start, head to the main teleport in Blissful Retreat. I believe you’ll need to have completed the Qinghe story quests for this one to appear. From the teleport, head up toward the village and look around for a giant blade sticking out of the grass. It will probably look a bit familiar. This is what you should be looking for.

Once you interact with the blade, it will send you to a new mini-map called Qinghe – Dreamscape: Blissful Retreat. The exact map location of the blade you need to interact with is pictured below, along with the new mini-map you’ve been placed into.

From here, follow the quest marker, which will lead you to a cluster of small islands connected by vine bridges. The game will give you an option to traverse these seamlessly. Go ahead and press the button that pops up on the screen to continue along the path. For PlayStation, this is done by pushing down on the left joystick. This will take you to an arched structure. Continue following the path upward, which will bring you to a run-down house.

As you approach the house, you will come across a ‘Mysterious Stranger.’ He will immediately initiate combat with you. Don’t worry about the fight too much, you’re meant to fail here.

Once the fight is over, you will need to start following the ‘Mysterious Stranger.’ He will lead you to a set of stairs that open up to a bright light through the doorway. Before you head inside, he’ll tell you that you’re on your own now. Walk up the stairs and you’ll be dropped into this heaven-like world. It truly is breathtaking. Take a moment and soak it in, maybe even take a pic or two if that’s your thing! As you continue following the quest marker, don’t forget to grab the teleport.
Side note: I looked around and did not find any lootable chests in the entirety of this quest. Could have just been user error lol, so feel free to explore and enjoy the breathtaking views!

Continue following the quest marker and it will lead you to Uncle Zhou. This is about the time I started getting a little emotional.

Uncle Zhou will exclaim that someone is occupying the First Jar Banquet and we need to drive them away. As we walk up to them, I immediately realize who it is. It’s none other than Yi Dao. I was a little frustrated that in this moment it didn’t seem like the main character remembered who he was. We easily recognized Uncle Zhou, but not Yi Dao? Regardless, we confront him, and in typical Yi Dao fashion, he decides to fight us lol.

This fight is one you will need to win to move forward, and I won't lie, I struggled a bit. If you're having trouble, there is an option after you die to make the fight easier if you aren't already on the lowest difficulty. You can also turn on the guide assist feature, which helps you time your blocks and dodges more accurately. Once you win the fight, Yi Dao will leave and you can return to Uncle Zhou. He then asks you to move the first jar banquet to the designated location. Pick up the jar, follow the quest marker, and set it down where it tells you to.

Go back and talk to Uncle Zhou. This will progress the quest and signal that it's time to start the celebration. Head toward the pier. Once you arrive, press R2 to say you’re ready to begin. Then follow the button prompts that appear on the screen. This will trigger a cutscene.

In this cutscene, you’ll even spot Ruby standing in the crowd celebrating 😭

During the cutscene, our character is shown celebrating, running around, and feeling happy. But suddenly, the celebration comes to an abrupt stop, and Yi Dao appears in front of us, telling us that it’s time to go. He then disappears and leaves us with his blade.

Once the quest is complete, you will receive these two items:

  • Legacy of Yi Dao (small accessory)
  • Dreaming of the Past (title)

Final Thoughts

I really loved this quest. I stumbled into it naturally while exploring, and when I interacted with the blade and got teleported to this dreamscape, I was genuinely in awe. Being able to see Yi Dao, Uncle Zhou, and Ruby again was such a nice touch, and it felt like a moment where our character was able to grieve in their own way. It was refreshing to have more interactions with these characters. I do wish we could have talked to Ruby directly, but seeing her in the cutscene still meant a lot. Overall, this quest really tugged at my emotions, and I’m so glad I found it the way I did. It makes me excited for the other quests and character moments I’ll come across in the future.
